Andorra

Andorra is a Catalan microstate between Spain and France. On either side of the borders, the roads climb a series of hairpin turns. Andorra’s homes cling to the slopes of the Pyrénées. Three river valleys converge at the capitol of Andorra la Vella. Foreign visitors flock to Andorra because of its ski resorts, black market, and status as a tax haven.

Andorra la Vella is the capitol city of Andorra. In 1278, the Bishop of Urgell in Catalonia and various French lords became co-princes of the Principality of Andorra. The Bishop of Urgell and the French president currently lead the sixth smallest microstate.

Plaça de la Rotonda
In the main square, Catalan artist Salvador Dalí’s La Noblesse du Temps sculpture depicts the nobility of time. As angels lounge by a wall overgrown by tree roots, a giant clock melts in the foreground.
