SCUBA Diving in the Bahamas

The water in the Bahamas is crystal clear and warm. The coral reefs are teeming with life. If you aren’t SCUBA certified yet, this is the place to do it. Dive by coral reefs swarming with fluorescent fish. Explore the Lost Blue Hole, which has a 100-foot diameter and a shocking depth of 200 feet.

Atlantis
Cross the bridge from Nassau to Paradise Island. The Atlantis is a giant pink resort with a water park, casino, and restaurants.
Straw Market
Visit the Straw Market for its straw craft souvenirs. You can find hand-woven straw hats, bags, mats, dolls, conch shells, and carvings.
Government House
In 1737, the pink mansion was originally the home of Governor Richard Fitzwilliam. It is now the official residence of the Governor General of the Bahamas.

The Queen’s Staircase
In 1794, slaves chiseled the 66 Steps out of solid limestone rock. It was an escape route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau. The steps were later renamed for Queen Victoria.
Junkanoo Beach
From Junkanoo, you can see the cruise ships in the distance. There are also beach shack bars, volleyball nets, and sky juice vendors.

Cracked Conch
Conch is a large gastropod mollusc in a big, pink, spiny shell. Cracked conch is strips of deep-fried conch meat.

Conch Fritters
Conch fritters are conch, bell peppers, celery, and garlic seasoned with cayenne pepper, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes. They are coated in a batter and deep fried.

Conch Salad
The salad mixes raw conch meat with diced sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, habanero peppers, orange juice, and lime juice. It is similar to ceviche.

This chowder includes conch, tomato, onion, and rum. Dash some sherry pepper sauce in the bowl.

This duff pudding dessert is a cake with guava swirls in the dough. The steamed pudding is springy and delicious with a rum butter sauce.
